Aussie rock legend Jon Stevens reveals why he’s lucky to be alive

Legendary rocker Jon Stevens has opened up about his terrifying brush with death in 2009

The Noiseworks frontman’s dramatic health episode began after a routine checkup uncovered a blocked artery which led to life saving open heart surgery.

‘I’m very, very lucky, and very grateful, I distinctly remember lying in hospital going, ‘I’m not going to meet my grandchildren.’ I didn’t have any grandchildren at that point!’ he said.

The 64-year-old New Zealand-born rocker discussed the frightening health scare in a new interview in The Australian on Monday. 

Elsewhere in the chat he explained that just ahead of going into the operating theatre doctors had told him he was about to ‘drop dead’ and had only days to live.

He continued: ‘I was elated because I was blessed that I found out [during a check up] and [I] didn’t have a heart attack. Something bad didn’t happen. It was actually the warning.’

The operation that saved Jon life involved a triple by-pass in which surgery replaced his block arteries with healthy arteries. 

Jon, https://luck8.photos who is currently touring with Noiseworks, added that he has a message to his male fans who might be reluctant to keep a close on their health.

‘I’ve been saying that since way back then: get checked up,’ he said. 

‘You check your car; it’s pretty basic stuff. But men, we’re proud – or stupid. [laughs] I don’t know. 

‘But your health is your wealth; that’s a very true saying. I always say, “Listen, if you’ve got kids, or you’ve got grandkids – you owe it to them to be around as long as you can.”‘

Jon had a second health scare in 2022 and received a stent to treat a blocked heart artery.

He became an ambassador the Heart Foundation ‘Give With Heart Day’ the same year.

The ’80s heartthrob first rose to fame after joining the Sydney pub band Noiseworks in 1986.

Jon rose to fame as the frontman of Sydney band Noiseworks in the 1980s

The group had four Australian top 10 albums and three top ten singles: Take Me Back, Touch and Hot Chilli Woman. 

In 2000 Jon was recruited by INXS to replace their late lead singer Michael Hutchence.

He toured and recorded with the Never Tear Us Apart hitmakers for three years before quitting the group in 2003. 

Jon is currently romantically involved with Héloise Pratt who is the eldest daughter of late billionaire cardboard king Richard Pratt, chair of the philanthropic Pratt Foundation and according to the 2024 Forbes Rich List, the country’s 29th richest person with a personal net worth of $1.93b. 

Eloise, 62, separated from her former husband Alex Waislitz in 2015 after the couple had tied the knot in 1994. and they share custody of their three children, Jake, Milly and Joseph.

Jon has been dating Eloise since 2016 folling his dramatic split from former model Jodhi Meares.

The rocker made headlines in 2007 after ending his marriage of 20-years to Tracey Stevens.

The couple have two children Millie and Levi.

Moment Audi R8 driver had lucky escape along dual carriageway

This is the moment an Audi R8 driver had a lucky escape after clipping another car along a dual carriageway – before twice careering into a central reservation.

The high-speed encounter in west London has been captured on camera and shared online, with viewers condemning the Audi motorist for their actions.

A piece of the car’s bumper is seen flying off following the first smash, which came as the Audi swerved from a left-hand lane to the right – in front of another vehicle.

The footage, which has been posted on X, formerly Twitter, then shows the £150,000 supercar then twice bumping into the central reservation.

The eye-catching driving involving the silver Audi came along the Hayes Bypass in Southall.

The 33-second clip, which has been viewed almost 900,000 times, ends with the Audi driver taking a slip road off the dual carriageway and pulling over after managing to regain control of the car.

Audi R8 models, which were manufactured between 2006 and the end of last year, https://luck8.design can reach speeds of up to 205mph and travel from 0-60mph in just 3.2 seconds.

Viewers have expressed their shock at their footage, in which the Audi driver managed to avoid ploughing into other vehicles.

Comments posted in response include ‘He was lucky’, ‘Idiot’ and ‘For f***’s sake’.

Others offered remarks such as ‘Why are Audi drivers very reckless?’ and ‘He did recover reasonably well, but that was horrendous driving’.

Another X user joked: ‘I am just amazed that an Audi driver has used his indicators.’ 

There was also a backlash against someone who criticised the driver behind the Audi, asking: ‘Would the clip have happened if the driver was in the inside lane instead of outside for no reason?’ 

Replies included ‘You don’t just crash into people because they’re in the wrong lane’, ‘There is always one idiot’ and ‘At that speed? Yes’.

Another commenter said: ‘No, it wouldn’t have happened if the Audi driver hadn’t been driving so lethally and crashing into things.

‘Also you don’t know what was on the road outside the camera view. Get the bus, eh?’
