The Do’s and Don’ts Of Adding A Room To A House

Planning your meals and snacks for the week will help you get what you need in one trip and avoid the temptation of repeated trips to the store. If none of these will do, the market holds lots of choices. The ’56s looked even better — rare for a period facelift — and offered even more power. Though this looked stiletto-lethal, it crumpled harmlessly on impact. Even so, Chrysler moved close to 125,000 cars for the model year, down from the 128,000 of ’56 but still good for 10th in industry production. New “ram-induction” manifolding lifted its 413 V-8 to 375 or 400 bhp, good for standing quarter-miles of 16 seconds at 85 mph. By dint of its lighter Windsor chassis, the Hemi Saratoga was the fastest in the line up to 1955, able to scale 0-60 mph in as little as 10 seconds and reach nearly 110 mph flat-out — straight from the showroom.

Chryslers also did well as NASCAR stockers, but were eclipsed by Hudson’s “fabulous” Hornets in 1952-54. However, millionaire Briggs Cunningham began building rakish Hemi-powered sports cars for European road races, and his C-5R ran third overall at Le Mans ’53 at an average of 104.14 mph (against 105.85 mph for the winning Jaguar C-Type). With the 3.03 cog plus a tuned engine and some body streamlining, Andy Granatelli came close to 190 mph in one flying-mile run. Then came Chrysler’s own mighty 1955 C-300 packing a stock Hemi tuned for 300 bhp — the most ever offered in a regular-production U.S. Saratoga returned as Chrysler’s midrange ’57 series and promptly sold more than 37,000 copies. Windsor moved up to replace Saratoga; taking its place was a downpriced base series called Newport. A series of plant strikes didn’t help. A half-dozen different axle ratios were available for even greater speed. Even if a deck plan can’t accommodate a mini kitchen, setting aside an area for storing essentials, such as charcoal and utensils, can make cooking outdoors a breeze. Just avoid storing acidic food in these types of containers, because the acid can cause the plastic to leach into the food. Cabinets are finished in a range of natural wood tones, from dark ebony to tawny maple to pale birch: proof that nature-lovers and modernists can be one.

Although many home decorators are most concerned with walls, floors need attention, too. Also, a screened porch tends to be a much safer playground for small pets and young children who might get lost or hurt when venturing too far from home. This ushered in former administrative vice-president Lynn A. Townsend, who then became chairman in January 1967, with Virgil Boyd as president through early 1970. These changes also prompted Exner, who was often blamed for the sales woes, to leave in late 1961 after shaping the ’63 corporate line. The ’61 line was mostly a repeat of 1960 save somewhat more contrived styling. Save the pillared sedan (only 1801 built, all for export), these Chrysler 300s were quite popular at prices in the $3300-$3800 range. Wagons eschewed rear struts for twin city home remodeling control arms, a system better able to cope with the wider range of load weights wagons carry. Packard had its excellent four-wheel “Torsion Level” system for 1955-56, so the idea wasn’t really new. The 300 dominated NASCAR in 1955-56, and might have continued to do so had the Automobile Manufacturers Association not agreed to de-emphasize racing after 1957. But it was worth the expense, boosting model-year volume to over 150,000 units and bringing appearance up to par with performance at last.

Wheelbases and engines stood pat for 1960. The Saratoga was in its last year. With holidays, birthdays and other special occasions, kids receive so many new toys a year that it can be overwhelming to know where and how to store them. You can also make the playroom a study room where your kids can sit comfortably on the floor and do their home works then play afterwards. Another design upgrade that can add value to your home is new flooring. Often dish-shaped, it stands on legs and can be set on a protected surface. I guess originally coffee tables were used to set your coffee cup down on. Wipe them down on the outside with your all-purpose cleaner to remove dust and any spilled detergent residue. To paint the top of a baseboard, paint down from the top for five or six short strokes, then smooth over them with a single, long, smooth stroke. Top-liners were confined to six varieties of luxury New Yorker and the 300F. By decade’s end, New Yorker regularly scored over 30,000 annual sales.
